In 2019, American sprinter Christian Coleman, who was considered a top contender for the 100-meter dash at the World Championships, was banned for two years after missing three drug tests within a 12-month period. One of the substances he tested positive for was nandrolone.

In 2016, Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova was banned for 15 months after testing positive for meldonium, a substance that was added to the WADA’s list of banned substances that year. However, she claimed that she had been taking the drug for medical reasons and was not aware that it had been added to the banned list. She also tested positive for nandrolone in 2006, but her suspension was later overturned.
